So who, on here has, or know of where there is / are Terrapins. Talking to Mike Jenkins at Shelsley yesterday, and the only names we can come up with are Mike Jenkins / Richard Walker (me) / Ed Hollier / Eric Close are the only cars still being used...and 3 of these are bike engined. What happened to the white car with 970 S engine sold at H&H auction in 2005, where has it gone? What has happened to all the chassis / cars?? They cant all be scrapped. I dearly hope they have only been hibernating! I know there is a car in the Channel Islands still in use...a Mr Mourant, dont know his first name though. I really cant get my head round the fact that of all the cars built only these remain....it cant be the case. C'mon lets get them out the woodwork!! Wouldnt it be great to have some kind of reunion at a venue sometime soon!

Re the white 970 car:
In about 2002 I travelled from London to the back end of the west country to buy the car, having been sent photos by the vendor.
When I called them from the station to say I had arrived I was told "oh, we sold it this morning. no point us coming to get you, is there"
I was less than impressed!
Still, Instead I bought another '60s sportscar which turned out to be rather more interesting (and ultimately profitable)
The same car appeared on Ebay recently but, surprise surprise, now with 1275 power.
Now, faced with the fact I'll never get a Landar I'm considering building a Mk5 once I finish the '64 mini I'm working on

I have the ex Ian Tomlinson Terrapin , which was converted from a car allegedly built by John Frampton . Ian developed the car to take advantage of "ground effect" hence it has inverted aerofoil side pods and a sizeable rear wing. Photos to follow. At present the car is part way through a full rebuild, and will eventually compete in the Wigton Motor Club speed Championship. There is quite a lot to finish yet. from the scrutineering stickers it last competed at Wiscombe Down in the 1980's

the yellow car is terrapin 1a/31 built by ken williamson, later owned by dr.geofrey cowell and owned by me for the last 30 years.i removed the cockpit surround bodywork which i felt made the car look too wide and made new body.i also fitted the full width front though i still have the nose seen in the photo.i have not used the car for many years as i acquired a jedi.the terrapin is dismantled in my shed but will be rebuilt one day.

Hi - I responded to the question posted regarding the last Terrapin for sale on eBay. I acquired the car about 5 weeks ago. I started work on it today after a short break at the nurburgring last week in a an old mini which delayed the start of the restoration.
The car is actually not in that bad shape - it is has a really old Cooper S engine with a straight cut gearbox and drop gears. Supposedly it is 1410cc - haven't got that far yet!
I was at a Sprint meeting on Saturday at Lydden and talked to a guy who told me that a Terrapin ran at the festival of speed last year? I'm sure you guys would know who that was if it is correct.
Congratulations on a great site - it is very interesting to see the different versions.
I have absolutely no idea what version of the car I have but it seems to be extremely well constructed. I can post some photos if it would be of any interest?
Pete

Hi Pete Welcome!! yes please, lets see some more pics! I contacted Piers today, the guy u bought he car from, to try to get contact details for you, so i could tell u about us on here. but you've found us yourself....which is fantastic!!! Im pleased the car has gone to someone who is restoring...i only found the link to the ebay ad yesterday, otherwise id have had it myself!!! keep posting.....there is a wealth of help here. I had a bike engined terrapin myself, competing regularly until recently. great to have another Terrapin in the mix!!! Richard

Hi Richard - Thanks for the response. Piers was a really nice guy, I have absolutely no idea at all if I paid the right kind of sum for the car but at the end of the day he and I were both happy so I guess it was right. I have just retired so it is a project which can get my full attention. I do however intend to compete in it although having seen the bike engined cars running at Lydden at the weekend I am pretty sure it will not be competitive - but who cares it is a lovely bit of kit - my kind of car. Fortunately I know my way around minis - I just converted my son's old mini back from Turbo and boy racer wheels back to 10" rims and Cooper S spec and got a respectable 100bhp on the rolling road. We have just come back from the 'Ring' where it performed really well. The beauty of the rebuild is that I have a lot of bits in really good condition which can replace parts on the Terrapin. I saw in one of the sections a question about large 10" tyres - I actually have ( a bit of a collector over the years) the front four tyres from the 6 wheel tyrell on banded steel rims with mini centres. I think they are too old to be used now which is a shame but they are the original Goodyears. Anyway better get on and start removing the panels - I will post some photos
Cheers

Hi,I am a new member(Neil Haslam) and together with my business partner (Tim Beardsley) run AMBER RACING. We have just started a total restoration on a Terrapin MK10 F, originally built by John Aldred in 1971-74.IT ran a Ford M.A.E and Hewland set up and has some ex Peter Gethin factory Chevron parts. This rare car will be for sale on completion

I fancy getting another Terrapin again to go sprinting. A rolling chassis, even in need of a throrough re-build is not a problem.
Where are all the chassis's that were built? Someone must have an old chassis somewhere??

Someone must have an old chassis somewhere?? Here is a picture of my 1450cc terrapin from 1988/89. Always wondered where it is now? I have loads more. Also, I have loads of it without it's bodywork on. e-mail me if you want copies Attachments:

Hi jasagracer,
It would be great if you could post some of the images for all to see, very useful for anyone thinking of building a chassis.
