hi to all fellow "terrapinists", have just managed to log in-on, have I think the longest mkv build in progress cut the ist tube circa Feb 1984' Haven,t given up am maybe 2/3ds finished. Relocation {2}, serious case of "financleitis" kept project on backburner. Have used 1800 golf as donor, corresponded extensively with The Man Himself re use of McPherson at the back but I think the lack of communication in the last few years makes him think I shuffled off the mortal. If any out there can help me get photos [we have a digital] on to this forum would be most grateful. Am self confessed "technophile"spent the late sixties in UK on GT 40,s and Lola and a spell on F1 in ZA Wanted to ask if any have had experience with bumpsteer at the back of any car that uses mcpherson set up at the rear so what can be considered acceptable toe in-out limits. cheers from oldest Goofer sorry that should read Golfpin

Hi Golfpin,
Hey I'm not gonna set any records at the rate I'm going at this right now... started in 2005 and not much progress 3 years latter... I'm always amazed at the people who build cars over just one winter...
Love the idea of using a more modern front wheel drive unit..
If your having issues posting pics on the forum, just send them to me at fpruneau@jawfishracing.com and I will post them here...
Cheers

How is your car going? You may have started in 1984 but you still have much more of a Terrapin than most people on the planet! The fact you still have it after all that time is a credit to you. I wish I had half the skill you have to be able to contemplate a car build like yours. There, is that a good start? Now, do you still have the car and where are you up to with it? I would love to see some pictures. It is people like you that keep the dream alive for people like me, you have to keep at it. Please.

Dear Flute If you refer to the attachment, notice where I have highlighted the front right corner, this shows two suspension pick up points, one being for road use and one being for race use. A unique feature. I'm going post another close up for your interest. There are many more design points based on simplicity and vast experience. If I can be of any assistance via the website or personal email; schultzp@telkomsa.net please feel free to enquire. There are many more pictures available at various angles which move away from the great AS original design but there are reasons (eg car built for use on road and track). Attachments:

Thanks for the update, I will check in from time to time. Your modifications are amazing, I wouldn't have thought of that. Your car has inspired me to get on with my Morris Cooper S restoration. Keep up the good work, regards, Jim.

RE golfpin many of the more astute observers would have noticed variations on the Alan Stanniforth MKv design. These were done with the great man,s blesing as I used a 1800 Golf as the donor . This meant a complete redesign of the rearend to accomodate the gearbox and the mcpherson/Chapman layout. the front end was also altered[not a good idea but influenced by the fact that I was intending to use the car on the road and the wishbone lay out inhibted the steering lock. Staying with the terrapin philosophy I opted to use all golf components as they are out here in RSA the MIni of yesteryear Rather than reinvent the wheel I stayed with Alan,s front end even down to the front mini uprights, but took it a step further bored the mini uprights to take take the massive golf bearing then voila I had the same PCD.s all round golf hubs, brakes as i said it is all available in the scaryards or spres shops. The gear linkage I was dreading to attack used all golf parts and took about 2 hours and was done, have used one "Rose Joint" have tried to keep away from tyhese delightful devices because good qyuality are rediculously expensive. If my emeory is correct the car as it stands no fluids no body 525 lbs/239 kgs wich gives me a fighting chance to get it in under the magical 1000lbs but wheels are potential price and weight problem. thats the outline any queries feel free criticisms as well
