Hi all,
I have now acquired the book and the plans. I have a well sorted workshop. I have built my constructions table, as recommend. I can make the time and I am presently enthusiastic. My wife and daughters think its great. All I need now is someone with a cattle prod to make sure that it all happens.
I live on a rural property in the southern tablelands of New South Wales, Australia. I have a good race track nearby (Wakefield) and one of the state's leading hill climbs about 50 minutes away. They meet monthly. We have a well supported state championship which uses about 7 different tracks.
At the moment I am proposing power via a Yamaha R1 (184HP) but that is long away.
I will keep you posted.

For those that might be interested, this is an update on my build.
It was a slow start, mainly due to waiting on specialised tools to arrive and some materials. Anyway, things have progressed. My bulkheads, rails and some brackets are completed. This week I start welding up the frame, which I expect to complete fairly quickly. I am now sourcing parts, which is an interesting exercise. It is so easy to source from anywhere in the world.
I have been attending all hill climb events nearby and have photographed, sketched and spied on the competition. I have spoken to anyone who has the time, all of which have been helpful. What I have discovered of the local talent is that many of the drivers are ex-professional drivers and even a former F1 team manager and designer. This has brought my design senses to a new level of planning, to enter a class where I will have a chance of competing without disgracing myself.
In Australia the Terrapin will compete in Formula Libre Class. The divisions are: up to 750cc, 751 - 1300cc, 1301 - 2000cc and above 2001cc. I will compete in the 750-1300cc division with a Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 (1298cc). I have ordered it to be built in USA and it will produce 217hp at a Stage One tune. If I can build to, say, 350kg that will be about 620hp/ton. I has been suggested to me that the car should be re-named the "Terror-Busa". I must admit I get a little nervous just thinking about being behind the wheel.
It has been suggested that I should be using 13" wheels with 8" up front and 10" at the rear on Avon 'hill climb' slicks. Does anyone have any comments on that?

Well done Mylora care to mmention who might the former manager designer is..... I might even know him, mind you I am getting a litle old now. strangely enough when I sat down at the pc my intention was to see if I could track down some old friends from OZ, we all met back in 1967 in London, Tim Schenken was one of the more famous. Anyay I am very excited to hear of your project the Terrabusa I think is perfect at 650 bhp per ton that will wake anyone up. Try and post some pics once you get going it is great fun, All the best Golfpin.

Hi Golfpin, my build is progressing well. I built my frame but then dismantled it as I wasn't sure if the Hayabusa would fit. The engine was built for me in USA and eventually arrived. The frame has been rebuilt with ample room for the engine. As of today the jigs for the suspension were completed and the suspension should be finished with a week or so. The reason for building the jigs was twofold. Firstly, for greater accuracy in this vital part of the build and secondly, at the insistence of those that know me best, for faster rebuilds following any mishaps on the track. My wheels have arrived. They are Performance Supalite 13 x 8 in front and 13 x 9 in rear. My Tillet racing seat has arrived and fits well. I have employed a personal trainer who visits me once a week and has two tasks. Firstly she is to ensure that I can get into the seat and, secondly, and more importantly, to ensure that I can get out of it. I am presently awaiting all of the steering gear to be delivered which is coming from the UK and is expected in a week or so. There is still much to be done. I am planning to enter the last event of the 2016 State Hill Climb Championships scheduled for 23 October 2016. Cheers, Mylora

HI Mylora, great to hear your build is going well ! I'm in Blue Mountains and my gracious wife has succumbed to my long held desire to build a car. I've just got myself a stock standard ZX12R engine with all electronics etc dirt cheap (it sits on my garage floor and I start it once a week-sweet sounds). I will be building this to the tightest of budgets -around $5K hopefully. Will mostly be doing track days (probably wakefield too) and lap dashes. I travel to Canberra a few times a year and would love to drop in and see your progress and ideas if that is at all possible. What are you doing suspension wise and what are you modifying from the original Terrapin design?

Hi sprite, I'm not sure if I posted my reply correctly so I am doing it again. Yes, you may drop in. Email me on gfc@colaw.com.au Mylora I live in the southern suburbs of Sydney and have a Terrapin Mk 2 or 3 built in the late 70's (I think). You are welcome to look at it if it helps with any aspect of your build. Cheers Peter

A bit of advice from someone who has built a few cars. DO SOMETHING EACH DAY.Even if you only spend 10 minutes making a small bracket or fitting something it will keep you motivated. The worst thing you can do is to push the car to one side and not touch it. Days will turn to weeks and weeks to months and you will lose interest.
