As a new member and retired racecar eng. developer and fabricator from the old IMSA series in the USA..cross the pond...I am wondering if the Terrapin plans will still be available from Allan's family or another source connected to the forum. blinde001

Fred: As a new member, do you have any info on Allan's family continuing with the availability of Terrapin plans. I can think of no better way to continue and expand his legacy than by maintaining, and building more Terrapins. By today's standards, that is still one well-designed and tidy spaceframe.

Hi Bob, I agree with you that the car still has potential.
As for the plans, maybe Rob or Mike could help on this level as I'm on the wrong side of the pond .
Cheers,
Fred

Fred: So you are on this side of the pond. I did get in touch with Rob and we have exchanged several emails over the course of the last 2 weeks. He has been extremely kind and helpful and has a copy of the book and plans for me, and I am picking up my UK pound notes from the bank today to send to him under FEDEX cover.
I was impressed both by the speed of his replies and his thoghtfulness. Makes me feel very positive about joining this community.

All, just to keep you in the picture. I have already mentioned that Trish (Allan's widow) and myself have a supply of HSLC Anniversary reprint books.
I had a working agreement with Allan which I need to review with Clare & Trish. HSLC 40th Year book was/is a labour of love which I am so glad that we followed through with. The demand is however from a specialised audience & low.
During the past months since Allan's sad departure I have refrained from bothering the family on what to do in the future, albeit I did make a commitment to Trish on this which I will honour.
Today I have written to Clare & Trish in order to ask them what they would like to do in the future. We will keep you posted.
regards Rob

Mike, to keep this open. I have offered to let Robert have some plans I bought from Allan (at quite some discount - just to cover my costs). I am also supplying some additional material as Allan kindly let me have a copy of all the Terrapin Bulletins from the 1960's onwards. In no way a commercial venture - just helping out where I can.
I have mentioned in another post that I have written to Trish and Clare so that we can discuss what to do with the future of HSLC etc.
Allan had a working agreement with me which I need to review with the family. I really have only ever covered my costs in the HSLC reprint venture with Allan and was more than proud to be associated with working with him on this as a reward in itself.
Trish & Clare will be steering the future and I will (if requested to do so) continue to provide my help where I can.

Hi Guys, Small introduction. My name is Baron from South Africa ---small town called Bethal close to the worlds biggest petrol from coal plants (SASOL)
I ve never owned or seen a Terrapin in the flesh, neither will I ever build one but I have been inspired by these cars since I read the book some years ago. Here in S.A. we have a racing catogary for m/cycle engined cars called formula M and I m pretty sure some of these cars were inspired by or build from Terrapin ideas maybe even from real drawings So for now I will just sit in the corner quiet and observe what is going on here. Im very pleased to have found the site (btw I picked it up from another of my favourite site called “Metal meet where all all metal fabrication and shaping things get discussed ). In the mean time me and my 4yr old grand son will be working on the beach buggy and waiting for him to grow up. Maybe one day -----? Cheers baron

Hi Baron and welcome to the Terrapin Forum. As you say, Allan has been an inspiration to a great number of competition car builders. I first became aware of him and the Terrapin via his Race and Rally Source Book. Having always dabbled with Minis and Mini Based kit cars, the Terrapin was always going to be a logical progression. One of these days I may even start welding the Mk5 sports racer chassis! Good to hear that there is an active bike engined formula in SA. I also know that the Australians are pretty keen on building small bike engined single seaters for hillclimbing. www.racemagazine.com.au/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=12&func=showcat&catid=23Anyway - hope you can get involved with your grand son's racing career, you never know you may get the bug yourself and build a Terrapin. Doug.

Hello Everyone. Im new to the forum and to Terrapins being only 28 these were around mainly before my time and most of them were on the other side of the world ( Im from a City called Wollongong around 100kms south of Sydney Australia) Dad and I (Mainly Dad) built a Locost Clubman over the last 5 or so years with an Nissan SR20DET in it and I have started racing this season with my dad in the local hill climbs around my area. So Im sort of familure with building cars. I would love to build a propper terrapin but the cost of Mini related parts here downunder are quite scary. So I will be morethan likely going to be making use of a 1995 Kawasaki ZXR 750 that I have sitting in the garage. or when its time if I have some spare $$$ to buy a newer 1000cc bike motor. see what happens.. Over the next few months Im going to start making lists of things that I will need and start stockpiling the bits and pieces I will need to build it.. Ive got a 1995 Kawasaki zxr 750 sitting in the garage not getting anyuse and the motor works fine..
Before I can start actually building it Im going to have to pull my finger out and finish wiring up my new garage (6m wide 9m long) with 3 phase and finish putting all the lights up.. Once this is done im going to start!
Thanks again for Clare Gardener and the family for keeping Allans car out there and being able to get the Plans and book available to the public.
Cheers
Nathan (From Down Under)

Hi, My name is Rhys Nolan, I live in the Bay of Islands in the very hot and sunny North of New Zealand, currently in the high 20s, cloudless and a light breeze. (Eat your heart out you frozen Brits I have been very interested in the Terrapins since buying the book when it was first released here in July 69, but never took the plunge to build. I still have the book in original condition except the plastic jacket is now a bit fragile. Over the last weekend I attended a Classic and Vintage meeting where the blue car featured at the top of the forum was taking part, and pretty successfully too. Enthusiasm is fired once more. My user name is because I have an Alpine A110 Berlinette, also a part built vintage period special, ERA cyclekart, etc. Thanks to all those who make the forum what it is. Look for the silly questions, (if I find a car, preferably an early one).

Hi all, My name is Steve I'm from Essex, I have in my possession the book and plans for both the single seater and the mk5. At the moment the idea is to build the mk5, it will be a mini based car as ive always been an A series fan, I know it won't be competitive but being a closed wheeler means I can track day it. My real wish is to put a Landar body on it. This will be a long term project that won't be started to next summer as ive other projects to finish first ( uprated engine for our classic mini and a turbocharged engine for the kit car)
