The book indeed came today, thank you very much. The post office counterperson agreed with me that there must be a difference in the ability to read handwriting between the U.S and England, we were both having trouble with it, and I just had to address a new envelope to be sure it was sent overseas. Of course when it gets there your locals will probably struggle reading my writing. There's just individual letters we write differently. But the money is on the way. So I'm looking at the book and it confirms the feeling I had of having seen it when I was growing up. We used to have a track in Riverside that was well known, and I grew up working the races because my Father had made friends with Ken Miles when buying an MG, his first new car. Mr. Miles was gone long before I would ever know anything of him, but Dad was quite hooked. One of the great things about racing people is they're so nice to all the kids, so they'd show us everything. I wonder if the guy built the car. Maybe he was like Conways and waited 30 years. It's so neat the way it explains so much, even the adjustments of the steering dampers. The thing is, we need some big tube sizes for SCCA racing in the U.S., the rollbar and backbone are 1 3/8" O.D., rounding off at about 35mm in metric. Ah well, here in the U.S. we have the Indy 500 coming up in a few weeks. I think the last time a car built in someone's garage made it into the race was only 25 years ago. I can't help myself, I'm daydreaming of the Terrapin that would win Indy. boscotheblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/indys-30-days-in-may-starts-today.html

How can I get a copy of the book? I am from the Philippines. I can pay via Paypal, or bank transfer.
And, with Allan's passing, how can one obtain plans? (I enjoyed reading his books: Race and Rally Car Sourcebook and Competition Car Suspension, 3rd Ed).

Thanks Mike. When at Allan's funeral Trish (Allan's widow) asked me to keep the book going (I have promised to do so as long as I am fit & well etc.). As it stands the demand for HSLC is quite low and I will review any future reprint runs with Allan's family. Fortunately Allan & I had a batch of books printed recently. My last arrangement with Allan was that we split the print run 50/50 between us and then we would individually distribute as we saw fit. Consequently Trish has boxes of books still so you should be ok. Supplying UK requests is not really a problem if you contact Allan's family or myself. The issue with overseas orders is processing payment. Totalkitcar.com (Steve Hole) has copies available as he can deal with international orders / credit card payments etc. which Allan & I could never really handle as a cottage industry. The intention is to try and keep the book available to the small number of true enthusiasts and university students (FSE) that would like a copy. cheers Rob

Currently there are a few ways to get the book:
If resident in UK: you can get the book from myself (£25 inc's P&P etc.) - e-mail RMC180@aol.com. Books are also available from Allan's widow to those in the motorsport scene/colleagues of Allan's etc. I don't feel it appropriate at present to publish Allan's home address etc.
If overseas (payment is the issue here - I cannot accept CC payments). I have supplied Steve Hole @ totalkitcar.com with a number of copies for international orders. If you are in Asia Pacific I have supplied Drew Edgington @ Pitstop bookshop in Perth with copies also E-Mail info@pitstop.net.au
Hope this helps? cheers Rob

I too noted that Totalkitcar.com does not list the book. I am located in the US and can pay via PayPal or international postal money order or just about anything else. LOL
Please email or pm with the details. Who will handle plans in the US?
Cheers,
Chris twofoot<at>comcast.net
