Douglas,Rob,
thanks for the reply/advice and there's no doubt in my mind that what you suggest is far better than what I have in mind. It's just that I have that crazy idea stuck in my mind that I want to make a 1970's lookalike race car with one donor:the Metro. For me it's more to see if it's possible to build a "relative safe" lookalike race car with just one donor car than to fabricate a competition car. The fun aspect will be in building the car and a bonus would be that perhaps a local hill climb entry may be possible. Making the car road legal will remain a wet dream I suppose ;D
Thanks again for the help !!

Hi Gilbert, If you are intent on using only parts from one donor car then you could drill out the centre hole in the rear brake backplates and attach them to the original Metro front uprights (now fitted to the rear). But you would also have to drill and tap some mounting holes in the Metro uprights, to bolt the backplates on, as these were not designed to take the drum brakes.
You can then use your disc brakes and calipers on the front of the car.

Hello Douglas, that sounds like a major undertaking for a guy with limited skills/tools and knowledge like me !! Maybe I should reconsider my options

(Verry !!) small update on the car. I managed to make the dashboard roll hoop. It's fabricated from 1" (25 mm) square tubing. The first attempt was a complete mess and the bend looked more like a hectagon than a smooth curve. The second attempt turned out OK and doesn't look too bad. I welded a steel sheet in as dashboard and cleaned everything up a bit. The only other thing I had time for was a single transverse tube in front of the dash roll hoop. At this speed....my life will be finished before the car ever is !!! Attachments:

Had a few days off at work so managed to do a little on the car.Not as much as I hoped for but that's nothing new. Cutting the odd angles on the square tubes is very time consuming !! Engine is a tight fit (hope not too tight !!) Made some sort of pedal box with the Metro parts, doesn't look too good but it works OK. Attachments:

started work on the front uprights, fabricated from the rear Metro hubs.Still a lot to figure out like do I weld a big nut on the top and bottom plates and mount the rose joint with a bolt or do I weld a bolt on these plates and secure the rose joint with a nut? The first I can drill out and re-tap in worst case scenario, the second it's easier to "secure" the nut with a split pen or a nyloc nut. Attachments:

4 mm wall thickn.steel box tube is used,2"x2".The "plates" I'm reffering to in the former post are to be welded on the top and bottom and can be seen on the hub. Attachments:

well,I'm out for a while I guess with one too many tack welds not using my shield,I have the classic "welders eye" !! It hurts like hell and it's not the first time !! (donkey's never learn I guess !!) The missus sai it should hurt twice as much and the pain should last 3 times as long so maybe my birdbrain should learn something from this pain !!! Oh well,it's part of the" learning curve" I guess. It's not easy to type these words with sunglases in a darkened room ;D !!
