Hi All,
I am progressing with a reasonably new build and have encountered my first real problem. I am at the stage of having tacked up my chassis but, fortunately, decided to review all measurements before final weld up. I transferred my chassis and engine measurements to CAD software and, guess what, my engine does not fit. Well, it fits, but I need more room for the drive system.
I am fitting a Hayabusa motorcycle engine, which will not be delivered for about 6 weeks so I cannot do an actual fit.
In the plans Alan has permitted an additional 4 inches allowance in each of the cockpit bays for the taller driver, thus and extra 8 inches in wheelbase must be acceptable. I have already added 4 inches in the seating bay. If I can add the other 4 inches to the engine bay I will be OK.
Has anyone had to deal with this? Is it going to be a problem?
Any helpful comments will be appreciated. |

Hi Mylora,
sorry I havce no advice for you BUT would LOOOOOOOVE to get a copy of your CAD of the chassis if at all possible, before and after modifying for Hyabusa engine as I am wanting to do exactly the same (just got the plans and spending the next 12 months collecting parts).
What diff set up will you use?

mylora, morning, golfpin here where in the chassis do you intend adding the extra 3 inches. Reason for asking is if the addition adds to the wheel base then the Ackerman angle will change. I don,t think to great degree. I have had to give this some thought on my own car [not finished!!!!!] because the new owner has asked me to complete the car and he is somewhat taller, and the chassis is complete!
apart from the change in the Ackerman angle it will also alter the wheelbase to track ratio and the Polar moment again I don,t think too much of a problem. If any more queries drop us a line am on schultzp@telkom sa.net.
