HI Sean
the Mod to the lower front suspension arm's are actualy just up to the Left on the background on this W-site, this stops the front lower arm's from trying to spread in corners and braking, putting less load on the rod bearings, only a pushing load and less side load.
do you have a set of plans for the car, or the book, I will look through the bulletin's as to when the change was
regards mike

Hi Mike I have the book, plans & bulletins. I had a look through the bulletins but could only see the Gould redesign. I have put in the extra member on the lower front wishbone. Makes sense. Please advise if there is anything else that requires upgrading. Thanks for the input. Sean

Feb 17 This month was finishing the wishbones with the safety update and getting them cermachromed. I finished welding so the chassis went off to get checked and then sand blasted, powder coated. I got a call to go & look at the chassis after sand blasting was done. I was dismayed at the state of the original welding. The more I looked the worse it got. Looked like a mixture of arc welding and mig of spaghetti worms and slag. What paint can hide!! So back to the garage and got as much of the slag off and then re welded all of the original joints. Dropped the chassis off to get touched up again as it has started to rust slightly after 2.5 weeks and hopefully it'll go in the oven soon. Also been working on the fuel tank and I decided to put a fuel sensor in it for a gauge rather than a clear tube somewhere under the seat in a separate compartment.

Mar 17 The chassis has been zinc primed & powder coated. I started to pop rivet on the sides, make new where required. Put in the master cylinders as I thought I might run the hydraulic lines before everything got too cluttered and I was able to get hard lines in. I then found out about the flexible lines which means less connections and can be run at a later stage. Radiator has be mounted so I can then place panels to direct the air through the radiator. I remade the rear bulkhead as the suspension points changed and I moved the radiator pipes brackets so the clips are accessible in the future. Radiator pipes in so now I'll start the exterior body panels this month.

Apr 17 This month has been slow progress as we took sometime off over Easter which ended up being half of Aprils weekends. I am working on the body panels and radiator pipes. Finding the right size is proving difficult as I need 27 - 30mm and I can get 25 or 32.

May 17 The body panels are now finished with dzus fixings, cut outs & curves. I decided to make up some side covers for the engine area to finish off the body lines. The bonnet was interesting to form. The garage in town has an English Wheel originally from the NZ Air Force and used to make the Spitfire/ Harrier panels in WW2. So a few hours of push pulling the panel along the wheels, the curves started forming to suit the bonnet shape. Not quite like vacuuming the floor. So now fabrication of the instrument panel, battery box and fuel tank bracket fixing to the final position.

Jun 17 I have been busy with brackets for the battery & fuel tank. Along with the instrument & switch panel. Also starting to plan out the wiring runs, isolating switch, instruments, starter etc. Next step is painting the body work.

Jul 17 I managed to get a shed to work in this month so I could paint and sand and make a mess some where else. It is the middle of winter but you have to take the opportunities as they come along. Prepped the panels, masked off . Aluminium needs a special primer. Then high build primer. Sanded to 320, then 400, final 800. The bonnet took some work as the English wheel left lines which I have got mostly out. Nice to get some colour on the car. Now to start putting things back together again.

Oct 17 Hi. Not strictly Terrapin news but concurrently I have been working on my parents 997 Cooper bought new in Zambia in 1965. Nearly a rolling entity again and definitely helps clear up some of the bits and pieces around the place. Then the mini motor to be put together and the Terrapin back on the to do list. Thought I should get this finished before the Terrapin otherwise it will be all play & no work.

Nov 17 The Terrapin is back in the garage painted & now starting work on fitting the rollbar & suspension. At the same time thinking about brake lines & electrics.

Dec 17 At last putting things back on. Not without issues though. I have found that the paint thickness has affected installation and required some of it to be removed. Also after getting back the chassis from being media blasted the welding was not that good and I rewelded a lot of the original welds. This has tweaked a few things requiring a sand, grind or a gentle tap with a sledge hammer to get things fitting again. I needed a porta power to spread the engine mounts to get everything to line up. So now ready to get a wheel alignment to check how close everything is in case a major adjustment is required. Then to get the hydraulic & fuel lines in.

Jan 18 The clutch & brake lines have been run but I need the flexible hoses to wheels to be made up to finish off.. This meant I could fix the header tank to the bulkhead & connect the hoses. I'll put the radiator in when the brakes lines are complete & tested. Also running the main power cables. I had a wheel alignment which has given me a base line to work on. A few adjustments required to get the caster to match each side at front and camber to rear.

Feb 18 The flexible brake hoses are installed, finally, and filled with Hydraulic fluid so now TP has brakes & a clutch. The main power cables are run & now sorting out the wiring that came with the car. The car came with a rod change arrangement and from this forum it was explained that the gears will be back to front. I didn't think I could live with this so I have remade the gear selection linkage based on one I saw on a Formula Junior at the recent Historic Grand Prix at the Bruce McLaren track.
