I would never say that any body knows exactly what they are doing but i had fun building it and driving is just the icing on the cake. Hey I'm pretty good at messing things up, ! ;D Let's face it Race car building 101 is not offered anywhere so the best thing to do is just start building it and learn from your mistakes. Why do you guys think I jumped at the chance of building a 2nd frame..... Yup a few mistakes, plus the fact that I went from motorcycle power to mini power. I have learned a great deal so far, and I'd rather build than dream about building. I keep going back to it but lets not forget that the design is almost 40 years old! Based on BMC mini parts that were available at that time. That's part of the appeal to me of building one with a mini drivetrain. Stu's car has a Track Record litterally, so obviously he did something right, and on top the bodywork is very nice.

Im a bit the same as you Fred having never built a car before it was easiest just to stick with the original design and see how it turned out. Now that ive finished I am already thinking of how to do things better. I have a set of MK 5 plans and I am thinking of building one but using a modern front wheel drive car as the donor instead of a Mini.

You allready have a donor in mind Wayne? Mini parts are becomming scarce (at least in this retarded part of the world ;D) so i would like to see what donors are more or less suitable to replace the BMC.
Cheers Cita.

Hi Cita ive been leaning towards a Suzuki GTI they easy to come by and there are plenty of performance parts available. I will make a full size mock up of the rear section of the car and take some measurments to see what will fit. Cheers Wayne

There are many possibilities but until I do the mock up I wont know what will fit

The Suzuki seems to be a good choice, small light stuff. Suspention migh be different at the back due to the width of the engine and Tranny combo. Like you said Wayne untill you mock it up nothing for sure. Are you planning to replace all the mini bits with your new donnor (uprights also) ?
Keep us posted on your progress.

The idea is to use as much as I can from the donor car.
