Trivia (prompted by a search for a lost Terrapin on the site) Did you know that a Terrapin actually ended up as a display on the wall of a nightclub in Amsterdam? I've asked a few dutch colleagues to keep thier eyes open when out on the town

Talking of lost Terrapins has anybody any idea where mine might be? When I packed up in 1973 British Leyland bought the car and it was used by Alan Dignan one of their PR men. I did hear it might have been badly pranged in the '70's but nothing since. It was no. 1a/9 and feature on Allan's Racing Car Show stand in 1971. Have a look at www.photos.wanadoo.co.uk/album/2101947 to see what it looked like. If you know where it is let me know. Graham Smith

though age & arthritus force me to use my ghastly patent shoe installers (obtained at great expense in 1977) my mind still works some of the time.I know the car was not yours I just hoped others might admit to having an old terrapin in the garage. Will ask at midlands sprints if anyone knows whereabouts of your old car.Regards -Graham

hi guys i am new to the terrapin scene(don't even have one yet), but due to the fact that i am very into the NSU scene(see my website www.nsutt-scirocco.nl, somebody offered me today the above mentioned terrapin which has been used as a piece of decoration in a bar in holland (but for your info, that was 15 years ago). I know the guy that bought this piece 15 years ago and asked me what it is worth to me. It has a NSU engine mounted. He wants to get rid of it. Problem is that there are some parts broken as they simply cut the lines to take it off the wall, so it fell down!!! But, when i am buying it, i am sure somebody here in this forum is willing to help me with the needed parts. Now my question, what is a fair price for such a piece??? thanks for letting me know asap best arno

Hi Arno and welcome to the forum. Is the Terrapin with the NSU engine the one which is shown on pages 153 and 156 of the 40th Anniversary Edition of "High Speed Low Cost"? (The car describes as belonging to Bill Southworth). The plans for the chassis and suspension for the Terrapins are still available, so it should be possible to repair and restore the car. It would be interesting to see some pictures of how the car looks now. Doug.

Hi everyone again, i received the book today, i had two pics of the back of the car already, and i can confirm that it is def. the car in the book from Bill Southworth. In the book they talk about the fact that this engine is Methanol driven. Is that correct? Has the car ever been driven on methanol or was it just a try that didn't work? The car misses the carbs, acc book it was fitted with amals. Anybody that has more info, pls let me know Also, what is a fair price for this car? ?? best arno

Hi Arno, Try and get the car for the price of a beer ;D As the car is incomplete, damaged and in need of a total rebuild you have a strong negotiating point. Doug.

hi everyone, just to let you know that i am still working on buying the car. The owner is not really in a hurry i think, as i am now finally after 10 weeks getting pictures send over (at least thats what he promises me) As soon as i have them i put them online. I am afraid the owner wants to see a price in the region of 5000 euro, which would be far to much (for me) best arno www.nsutt-scirocco.nl

hi guys
i was finally able to have a look at the terrapin. See in the links some pics. I offered him a fair price for the car i think, but according to him only the engine could be worth that. Unfortunately the NSu world is getting crazy with their prices at the moment, 4 bigger bore pistons are already over a 1000 euro. Now he wants to open the engine first to see if there are any special "expensive" parts in it. If that is the case i can name him a new price if i am still interested. Pics are very bad, as the car was put on a layer in the garage and i had only 80cm height to stand in. Is there anybody who has contact details to Bill Southworth. I am sure he can tell me more about the engine!! Any help would be appreciated best arno arno.zuylen@planet.nl

hi guys,
what can i report. I don't know if anybody had a look at my website lately. I bought an norton motorcycle with an NSU engine mounted, very special. But for me it was a terrible feeling on the road, i prefer 150mph in the goggomobile ;D , still feel much safer. So yesterday i sold the bike again to a german collector, with a nice margin. Today of course, due to the extra money i have in the pocket i contacted the NSU/Terrapin owner again, and i hope i can close the deal now within the next 2-3 weeks. I will keep you guys informed For the goggo i had one of the specialist build me a real top race engine, he guarantees 125 HP, imagine that engine in a terrapin. I am building that engine in the goggo at the moment, as soon as it runs, i will shoot a video of the speedometer and put it online, i am sure it will be impressive. The engine that was mounted in the goggo before is rebuild after a damage at a slalom, that would fit perfectly in the terrapin, it has approx 105 HP best regards from holland
