Hi folks,
I'm planning a wee project - not a Terrapin, but using a very similar rear end, with Mini front hubs at the rear, and wishbone suspension etc, as per Terrapin.
My question is, what is the highest BHP anyone knows a Terrapin to have run with? i.e, what can the chassis cope with. I'm looking at possibly using a Lotus Twin-Cam or Ford X-flow........
Tyres will probably be the weak link!
Cheers,

HI Pandora the only car I know with any BHP through the rear of a Terrapin was this car, BDJ on a mini gearbox Dave Gould use to hill-climb, do not know the the BHP he had in that engine, but could find out if need be, he would be using the later "Gould" rear suspension set up to cope with it, and some mod's to the top suspension mounting and shocker mount on the hub. regards mike

excellent! many thanks.
Looking at it, Mini hubs etc seem to cope with much higher outputs over the years, so am confident it'll be fine.
My plan is to build a spaceframe in the rear of Mini or estate shell, with in-line engine and VW/Hewland box, with top link and reversed wishbone and trailing link rear suspension.
was considering using tuned 1275 A-Series, but I recon, if i'm going to do the job......... alternatively, might build it with A-series first, then I can always fit the bigger engine later.
This might take some time!
