This is a very sad news Ian. Thanks for informing us.
Allan was a very special man, I never had the oportunity to meet him, only had the privilege of phone conversations. He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Allan a couple of times at the Harewood hillclimb. He will be sadly missed by all race enthusiasts.

I was deeply saddened to find out that Allan had passed away on Saturday after a brief illness. He was racing only 4 or 5 weeks ago. He will be greatly missed.

Very sad news, my deepest sympathy to Allan's family and friends.
Allthough I only met Allan a few times he has been an inspiration to me all my adult life.
I bought HSLC as a 12 year old lad, mad keen on cars and desperate to build my own Terrapin. My life took a different path and I never managed to get the car built although the dream never faded. As I made my way as a writer, Allan's books were my bible, especially his suspension book. I would have found it difficult to write my own books without the knowledge that Allan passed on through his work. Goodbye Sir, rest in peace.

So sorry for your loss, but then it's all of our loss. It's one thing to have the car, it's another to have the experience of building it here, with the designer looking over your shoulder. It would be a piece of history.
I think it's time to get to work putting Mr. Staniforth on Wikipedia.

Certainly sad news to read of Alans passing. I also read the book early in the 70s as a teenager. Never got around to building a Terrapin until 30 years later and had a great time doing it. I only got to meet Alan a couple of years ago on a trip to UK and enjoyed his hospitality. He certainly has been an inspiration to me throughout my life and will never be forgotten. Farewell.....a life well lived.

Re : Allan Staniforth Have just read the very sad new,s but what a life . I am more saddened by the fact that I was in the UK last year and just could not get to see him.. corresponded frequently, nothing was too trivial to solicit a reply, to paraphrase something from Kipling " What a man, my son" deepest sympathy to all, family and friends Denzil Schultz South Africa

Re : Allan Staniforth Sad news indeed and may I offer my Sincere condolenences to his family, "Stanners" as he was known in the paddock at Harewood and he almost did every event since 1962, Richard Storey (Constructor of Terrapin 1A/40 thanks to Allan)
