How do I go about punching the holes in the bulkhead?

I drilled mine with a hole saw and then used MDF formers (male and female) pulled together with a bolt to shape them. Needed two sizes but it worked fine for me and is quick/repeatable once the MDF formers are made up.

Hi Guys,
I'm new here. I have a very old set of plans and the book. Purchased in the 70's. After all this time I'm going to start and stop dreaming. My question is, am I right in assuming that the smaller holes in the bulkhead diaphragm are 1.5".
Great site with lots of answers. Well done guys. Thanks.

I can't see the smallest holes dimensioned on the plans or in the book. Assuming the Section A-A is drawn to scale with respect to the 1/2" dia. tubes then the holes would appear to be 1.5" diameter.

I used sheet metal punches (the type with a bolt through the middle which cut through the plate steel as you tighten them up). Plenty on Ebay. You only need to drill the guide hole for the bolt. Then I made some formers on the lathe (from lignum vitae) to press the radius onto the holes. It all worked very well. See photo Attachments:

Dimensions for the bulkhead holes are clearly marked on the plans Attachments:

Dimensions for the bulkhead holes are clearly marked on the plans The dimension of the bottom holes must be in invisible ink - I can't see them. On the view of Bulkhead 2 - the tachometer hole is dimensioned as 3", the side holes are dimensioned as 2" but for the life of me I cannot see a dimension for the bottom holes.

Doug, I can't see 'em either! I think we have to assume as you said before that the section A-A is for the bottom holes and are 40mm and the ones up the side are 2 inch (yes I can mix metric and imperial with the best of them!!). I have to confess I haven't gone the "diaphragm" route as I will be adding side pods to hide some bits and pieces like radiators, oil cooler, battery etc. I've seen some other Terrapins like it and I think they stayed in one piece...
