It all seems to have gone quiet on the Forum I have just finished rebuilding the head off my car since the blown head gasket at its last outing I will be puting it back on this weekend and my next outing is on the 25th. It would be good to hear some progress reports from other builders Cheers Wayne

Hi Wayne, Well - it's getting close to the end of the hillclimb & sprint season here in Scotland, so I might find some time to start on my MK5 (as well as modifying my Radical for next season). Hope the new head gasket holds - have you had to reface the head and/or block? I suspect it is a Mini thing, but everytime I have seen head gasket trouble it seems to be between cylinders 2 & 3. Doug.

Hi Doug Its the same over here just 2 rounds to go in our season the head gasket blew into one of the water jackets. While I had it off I reseated the valves and added double valve springs there was no need to resuface the head or block. Cheers Wayne

Hi all, Now that the nights are drawing in (in the nothern hemisphere anyway), I had better start serious plans for starting the MK5 build. I now have a tig welder so I have no excuses for not fabricating the manifolds, chargecooler etc for the supercharger installation....just need a little practice first Had a look at a fellow competitor's supercharger installation on a GSXR 1100 powered single seater, seemed a little complex especially as he had installed a full fuel injection system as well. He also made the toothed belt system a bit complicated by requiring the belt to reverse the direction of rotation by using a double sided toothed belt and driving the supercharger from the outer set of teeth on the belt! Hopefully the installation on the A-Series can be a bit simpler. I still think I will be using a big suck through SU carb with a chargecooler between the supercharger and manifold. Lets hear from all the other Terrapin builders out there on their build progress Doug.

Doug, I will be interested to know what target wt. you think you can build your Mk.5 to. I am wondering which way to go ie build or buy a new car for Sports Libre hill climbing. I've had alot of success with my Radical but someone has now blasted my Harewood class record and I can't think of any way to get more wt off the 480kg car. A light bike engined MK5 might be the answer. Regards Graham

The Mk5 design uses 3/4 inch and 5/8 inch 18g tubes - almost bird cage like compared to the tubes on your Radical ;D The problem with the Radical is that it was designed to compete against other Radicals, hence weight saving was not a premium. I have been looking at my Radical and thinking that a nice lightweight chassis and minimal bodywork would be the way to go for Hillclimbing (that plus a 1399 Hyabusa!) So what spec. is your Radical? Doug.

It's an SR3 with 1400cc busa. 10 wins this season and Sports Libre Trophy so not bad. But must keep to Terrapins on this site. Allan live next door and is responsible for the Radicals success, so if I decide to build a Mk 5 expert help not to far away. It's tempting!

Hi Graham, I'm sure it helps having such expert assistance close at hand. Well done on your successful season, but as you say lets keep to topic - namely Terrapins Doug P.S. Like the photo of your car...
