Hi I have sent off for a set of MK5 plans that I intend to eventually build , either as a "Classic GT" car or any suitable racing /hill climb class. I intend to build it pretty much as designed with 10" mini wheels and a 1380 "A" series engine. Any comments, advise, constructive criticism, where to source parts, etc will be gratefully received. I have done a couple of seasons hill climbing and sprinting an old single seater Austin 7 but not for three years. I fancy something a bit more modern!!!. I started to collect parts to build a Terrapin in 1975 but gave up due to work then family commitments. Hopefully I will get a bit further this time. ;D

I too have done some past Hillclimbing, and have a MK2 which I'm restoring, again using the A series engine, and possible 10" wheels. I find the forum little read, and often no reply received, so do contact me at 'desmond "at" tatimms dot com' and I'll help you all I can. I have just bought track rod ends, and suspension, so can certainly help out there. Good luck!

I've been hillclimbing/sprinting my Mk1a for the last six seasons and good fun it is too! I've stayed faithful to the original A-series engine, even though I'm racing against the moderns and sometimes losing out to the tune of almost 200bhp against the competition. If you need any photos, etc. of installations, suspension or any other info let me know. Maybe if we could get enough of us together we could persuade one of the championships to give us a class of our own... ;D ;D

Thanks for the replys gents. I will be in touch when I have had a look at the drawings. My plans at the moment are to start collecting some of the parts and fabricate up things like wishbones, pedal box, etc. I have not yet looked to see what tyres are available as this would determine the wheel diameter and ultimately the chassis layout. Too much to do, not enough time or money !!!

Hey welcome to the forum...
Yes I have to admit things have been a little dead lately, I know for me other priorities have been taking a lot of my free time.
I've put aside my build at this time, but I do intend to go back to it this spring. I just won't let it go. I'm aiming toward more of an original build with a 1275 engine.
Mike I sure would like to see more of your car, since it is what It looks to be more what I'm aiming for.

Fred,
What sort of pics are you after? Can't do anything at the moment because the car is on the trailer ready for the weekend, but if you let me know what sort of thing you want I'll sort something out.

Hi Mike sorry for the delayed response, I was away for the last few weeks, racing in Kasas at the Us solo 2 Nationals, and on business after that...
I'm particularely interested in your cooling set-up, and gear shift...
Thanks
Fred
