HI All would like to have your opinion on chassis plates for the cars, I have asked the powers to be and was told to see what you would think. I have had a sample made and would like your opinion on it. there would be a small charge for the plate and shipping. the plate is in S.S. and around 5 1/2inch long with pre-drilled holes for rivets. will try to up load a photo of it for you, will have to see if this works, as the Preview button is not working regard mike

Some time ago I found an article stating ALL requests to the Staniforth family must go through that writer. I requested information on the Terrapin embroidered patch. After a year or so, I had no reply so went ahead with my own plate and patch.

HI gimmeabeer
I had a word with Clare about the chassis plates and sent the photos over, every thing is OK, if there was a response from hear on the Forum for them, then I would have a batch made, as there is no response I will cancel the order
I do like your chassis plate with all the details on it, maybe I could call round to have a look at the car some time.
regards mike

Mike,
It is good to see someone addressing this subject. I asked some time ago about chassis plates and had no reply.
Your plate is a good start, however, I must say Gimmeabeer's plate is fantastic. It is similar to plates on other race cars.
Personally, I think that all Terrapins should be wearing the same ID tag/plate. To me it shows that Terrapins are not some rag tag back yard built pieces of crap. It shows: unity, professionalism, something to be proud of, it displays to onlookers and enthusiasts what the car is ( not just some open wheeler thingy).
Yes, they are built in the back yard, but, there was a design put on paper and that was the basis of the build of all Terrapins. Just like all the other historic race cars of that era, they were also built in the back yard, but other race car makes have been remembered because people can read the ID plate that is in the cockpit area (and the emblem stuck on the nose cone).
I think if a similar plate to Gimmeabeer's was used but, also add "Engine Type". Leave all the information boxes blank (e.i. Build Date: ______ )and then a quantity of like blank ID plates can be produced and owners can get the details engraved. I would definitely be first inline to buy one for my Terrapin(if it was a quality well designed plate). Í was going to design and get one made anyway.
I'm sure all Terrapinist's would agree that it would be a good thing if we all united and got behind one ID plate ( I like the fact that Gimmeabeer's has Allan's name on it too).
Food for thought.
Cheers, Carnut

Hello MBEngineering you would always be welcome to call in and see the car. It may be a bit of a trek for you as I am in New Zealand (Whangarei). Then again it is a small world and getting cheaper to travel. My plate was done to my design by the local engraver, on brass. I considered it a bargain at $NZ40 (approx 20 pounds) Cheers Geoff

Hi graeme, love the plate on Don's old car. i had a small plate made for mine but it doesnt match the cod or logbook as these were issued before the car was put on the register. its a bit of a can of worms but no one here has picked up on it and i have the photo and letter from Alan and Richard Blackmore to verify the details. as you are aware, MSNZ can be quite funny about these things. must ring sometime regards stu
