That's what I have for my build, ;D I took the decision to use it since a few DSR guys are using those racks in their cars. They do modify them a little, they machine off the mounts.
I know Terrapin aka Rob is using a 911 turbo rack. Rob is ther a difference between the 911 tubo racks and the 914. Also you modify yours, could you elaborate on your modifications.
Thanks Fred

Having seen Robs, I dont think the 911 rack has the external u clamp arrangement for the arms. 911 racks run at about £140 from the salvage yard so this 911 rack looks good even if it costs me $50 to get it over here.

Hi Mark, looks very very similar to the 911 rack I bought. I then machined off the two mounting lugs (and made two split block mounting brackets). Also machined off the large alloy flange at the base of the shaft coupling (not needed). The original arms did have the same pivot brackets but I replace these with 911 Turbo steering arms which have a conventional joint. The devil is in the detail as they say ;D
PS - These racks are usually made by ZF

Bedtime reading explained - lay the plans on the bedsheets and open the book at page 55 - start reading and every so often refer to the plans for inspiration. Sleep on it for a few nights and it all becomes clear ;D Seriously, Mark as you may know I am off work (half term, kids etc......) On Monday when I have time (good job I have ) I'll put a detailed description of the rack mods together with some photos (remind me if I forget) - co-incidentally, the ZF Porsche rack fits fine - perfect width with right amount of adjustment for toe - with no spacers on the steering arms etc. Just good luck I suppose. I can also show you a more technically up to date methos with rod, rod ends (like a kart) that will make bump steer adjustment easier if you are not a Terrapin purist I have had to make the rack mountings adjustable in my case as I am retaining the mini steering arms. In short, yes the rack is a good buy if you can get it at reasonable cost (park it for now, plenty to do before you get to the fitting stage.)

A while ago i modified a Escort rack for my single seater and it costed me only a fraction of what a Porsche rack is going on E-bay. The rebuild is dead easy and can be done in a couple of hours. Inspite of what i thougth the rack bar is not hardened and can be shortened with a hacksaw and rewelded without any problem. I have some info somwhere with pictures on how to do this with a Hyunday rack. If somebody is interested i'll see if i can find the info.
Cheers
