Can anyone suggest a possible small lightweight seat that would suit a single seater, possibly narrower than a Terrapin. What are you guys using in your Terrapins? A few links would be most appreciated.

Hi Russ,
i designed a aluminium (aluminum?) seat for Bigmark's Terrapin but he has not build it yet. It's not very difficult to make a template for an aluminium racing seat. If you get stuck i'll try to help you with your seat but i would suggest that you wait untill Bigmark's seat is finished and hear what he think about the design. The result of building your own seat greatly depends on what kind of tools available and the time you like to spend and ofcourse money.

two part poly foam will work OK but it needs more preparation is very messy and in the end will cost about the same or more than an aluminium seat. Special attention must be payed to the area's where the seat will be fixed to the frame. If done properly the result (comfort ) will be better than an aluminium seat as it can be made to fit as a glove around your body. It all comes down to what you expect from a seat and what you are prepared to spend on it to make it, wether it be time, material or money.

Hi Russ, Whatever construction of seat you choose, get a good tight fit (with padding in the right places)! I only do short hillclimbs and sprints but I still get a considerable battering from rattling round the cockpit despite the very tight 6 point harness. I really must get a better fitting seat and include some upper body support. My old Hawke FF1600 chassis uses a simple (angular) fibreglass moulded seat with about 1/4 inch of padding - not very comfortable. If I take part in a two day event - I certainly notice the bruises the second day. Found a picture of the seat - the Hawke has a very reclined driving position. Doug.
