Hi Guys I am in the process of fitting a new Engine & Transmission to my car its the later model type with the Pod type inner universals. I decided to change the lower rear Wishbones to the Gould design at the same time. My problem is that with it all in place the new Drive Shafts are too short even with all the Rose Joint screwed in as far as they will go. Is this correct and I need to have special Drive Shafts made or am I missing something really simple. I would be most grateful for any assistance you can offer. Cheers Wayne

Hi, All you have to do is to extend the depth of the pot joint by welding on a piece cut from another pot ...Ian.

I think Wayne's point is "why don't the standard Mini drive shafts fit?" I would have thought that the Gould plate system would have been designed for the same track width. Unfortunately my copy of the Terrapin bulletin No 21 Nov 1972 appears to be missing the first page - on page 2 the diagrams only give details of the hub modifications and the Gould plate - no dimensions are given for the lower wishbone or radius rod. Anyone got a copy of the dimensions? Doug.

Yes thats right I had the same bulletin however I already had the wishbone that came with the original car I brought so I only had to make the plates, I will try the modification to the pods and see how it goes Cheers Wayne

Don't know if this is any help but, I have a two seater mk5 chassis and to use the pot type inner joints i have found that MG metro driveshafts are the right length both sides. Also don't know why standard mini shafts are too short, could be that 2 seater has fraction wider track.

Hi , i'm new , but i have been reading through the posts and found this, how much too short are they? you could try using early hardy spicer drive shaft set ups as these have sliding splines on the inner end which may extend enough to get you out of trouble,

HI , I would think by now you have sorted the driveshaft/susp' by now , but if it helps, I found my drawings if it help, The drawings are to scale ,so I could take the sizes of them if you require them , I also have page 1 of the bulletin 21 if you require it. regards mike
