When calculating wheel rate or frequency, do you have to consider the motion ratio AND the shock mounting angle?

corner-carvers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27574Uh, are you sure your question isn't just mind taffy? I can see how in the planning stage you're thinking that's going to affect it, but suddenly there's shocks and springs that work a little differently than you've planned and, well, maybe you'll be happier if you let the forum info from that link occupy your thoughts instead. Just a thought, and no, I'm not an engineer.

Didn't find anything useful there. I will look at the posted formula after I get through the registration process.
Just for reference I have a Locost 7 with a rather poor motion ratio in front, and like most 7's, the front shocks are at a ~45% angle. After a track incident I need to redo the front suspension, so I am looking to improve the geometry. Looking at Allan's Race & Rally Car Sourcebook, a 45% shock mounting angle would have a significant effect on the wheel (effective) rate, however the motion ratio diagrams often show the shock mounted at a significant angle but there is no clear guidance on if you need to consider both in the rate calculation.

Allan wrote an interesting piece relating to this topic in Speedscene which he kindly allowed us to reproduce in our club magazine website. Here is the link. I hope you find it useful.
EDIT
My apologies - although Allan, the author and copyright holder, gave permission to put the article on our website we have received a complaint from the editor of Speedscene, the club magazine of the Hillclimb and Sprint Association where the article first appeared and have accordingly removed the article. Which is a pity.

Yes - this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
(still waiting for my corner carvers registration to go through)
